Miami’s Rueben Bain Jr. earns top grade among true freshmen

Undefeated No. 18 Miami earned an emphatic 41-7 victory at Temple in Week 4 thanks in part because of one of its freshman defensive linemen.

Rueben Bain Jr. checks out as the highest-graded true freshman defensive lineman in the nation weekend according to PFF. The 6-foot-3, 274-pound Miami native has amassed 4 solo tackles and a sack so far to begin his college career.

Bain Jr. and the Miami defense have allowed 7 points or less in 3 of its 4 games this season. Bain Jr. arrived at Miami as the No. 10 EDGE in the nation according to 247Sports.

247Sports currently has Bain Jr. tabbed as a potential 2nd or 3rd round pick in the NFL Draft when he’s eligible to declare. Bain Jr. racked up an astounding 29.5 s

acks during his junior campaign at Miami Central.

“A highly productive pass rusher that wins not only with technique, but also one of the best motors in the class of 2023,” Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins said. “..Ability to plant, redirect and make stops outside of the hashes is extremely rare for someone his age as he’s quick to read and react.”

Miami is on a bye this week and will follow that up with a primetime home contest against Georgia Tech on Oct 7 (8 p.m. EST/ACC Network).
