Middle Tennessee coach after Miami win: ‘It was a butt kicking’

Miami fell 45-31 to Middle Tennessee on Saturday afternoon, marking one of the biggest upsets of the college football season so far.

The Canes were favored by 26 points but never led in this game. The Blue Raiders picked off Tyler Van Dyke to start the game and then did it again a few minutes later, returning that one for a touchdown.

Miami never got closer than 14 points in the second half, even after replacing Van Dyke with Jake Garcia.

In his postgame press conference, Middle Tennessee coach Rick Stockstill pulled no punches when evaluating the game.

“It’s always fun to do stuff that nobody thinks you can do,” Stockstill said. “Coming down here as 26-point dogs and kicking their butt like we did — because it was a butt kicking — there was no fluke to this. Just really proud of our team, the toughness that we played with. We were the tougher team here tonight.”

Miami is now 2-2 on the season. The Canes are off in Week 5 and will face North Carolina in Week 6.
