Report: Miami to hire Michigan’s Josh Gattis as next offensive coordinator

After weeks of struggling to make an offensive coordinator hire, Mario Cristobal and Miami have ultimately landed one of the best young offensive minds in the game.

The Canes are hiring Michigan offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, according to multiple reports. The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman was first to report that Gattis has accepted the offer.

Gattis is one of the most well-respected offensive coordinators in the game. He guided Michigan’s offense to a B1G title last season and a College Football Playoff appearance. He also won the 2021 Broyles Award, which goes to the nation’s top assistant coach.

While Gattis is coming to Miami from Big Ten country, he has some experience in the South, too. He was Alabama’s passing game c

oordinator in 2018 and also spent two years on James Franklin’s staff at Vanderbilt.

He replaces Rhett Lashlee, who left Miami earlier this offseason to become the head coach at SMU.

Gattis will inherit one of the best young quarterbacks in the country in Tyler Van Dyke. The Hurricanes had one of the most explosive offenses in the ACC over the second half of last season.

Miami also returns key players like running back Jaylan Knight and tight end Will Mallory.
