Tyler Van Dyke calls out the differences between Manny Diaz and Mario Cristobal

Tyler Van Dyke isn’t hesitating to call out the differences between Manny Diaz and new Miami coach Mario Cristobal.

“You can tell the difference, the discipline and intensity that has changed the program so far,” Van Dyke said in an interview with WQAM this week, via the Miami Herald

. “There’s no more BS going on around here.”

Van Dyke continued by outlining some specific areas where Cristobal has improved Miami’s culture this spring.

“Always have to be on time or you’re going to face some discipline issues,” Van Dyke said. “[Paying attention to] small details will help us on the field. We need that standard and we’ve needed it for awhile.

”With him as the head guy, with all that talent, there no more excuses. We have the best coaching s

taff in college football. There are no more excuses to be 7-5, 8-4.”

The Hurricanes went 7-5 last season and went 8-4 during Van Dyke’s redshirt freshman year in 2020. They’re looking for their first 10-win season since 2017. That’s their lone double-digit victory campaign since they joined the ACC in 2004.

Van Dyke enters the 2022 season as one of the most highly-rated quarterbacks in the country. He finished last season with 6 straight games of 300+ yards and 3+ touchdowns.

Miami opens its 2022 season vs. Bethune-Cookman.
