UConn star dealing with illness ahead of Final Four matchup vs. Miami

UConn star Jordan Hawkins missed practice on Friday as he’s dealing with a non-COVID illness, according to multiple reports.

College basketball analyst John Fanta noted that Hawkins spent the day resting at the hotel on Friday and was not apart of the Huskies’ practice the day before the Final Four.

Hawkins is a major player for UConn. The star guard averaged 16.3 points per game this season and is one of the best shooters in college basketball. He made 38.5% of his 3-point attempts this season on a volume of 7.7 tries per game.

Hawkins is also coming off of back-to-back 20+ point games in UConn’s wins over Arkansas a

nd Gonzaga. Along with Andre Jackson Jr., Hawkins is UConn’s offensive engine on the perimeter.

If Hawkins is unable to go or is limited, the Huskies could turn to Joey Calcaterra to play a bigger role. Calcaterra is a 5th year senior who has made 43.9% of his 3-point attempts so far this season.

Miami is playing in its 1st ever Final Four. Tipoff against UConn is at 8:49 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
