Will Mallory has been sidelined after taking a hard hit by Virginia Tech safety Nasir Peoples early in the game.

According to sideline reporter Josh Darrow, the Miami tight end has been ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Peoples’ shoulder made contact with the back of Mallory’s head as he was falling to the ground on the play. It’s highly unfortunate for the Canes and for Mallory.

Miami is now suddenly very thin at the tight end position. Mallory is one of the best in the ACC, but could miss time with this head injury. Backup Elijah Arroyo has already been ruled out for the season. The Canes could now be reliant on true freshman Jaleel Skinner.

Mallory caught 3 passes for 62 yards before exiting the game. Skinner made 1 catch for 6 yards in the first half.

The Canes lead 17-0 at the break thanks to big performances from Tyler Van Dyke and receiver Colbie Young. Miami’s defense also had an excellent first half against the Hokies.
