Dave Doeren confirms QB change for NC State entering Week 6
Dave Doeren and NC State entered the 2023 season with a new starting quarterback after adding Brennan Armstrong via the transfer portal. The former Virginia star and veteran QB won the job to begin the season, but the offense has underwhelmed.
Unfortunately, the Wolfpack scored just 10 points in a Friday night loss to Louisville during Week 5. That included 2 interceptions and a fumble from Armstrong as he completed just 13-of-25 passes for 112 yards.
As a result, the head coach confirmed on Monday that the Wolfpack are making a change at QB. Armstrong will be benched in Week 6 as the team turns to MJ Morris under center.
Doeren says MJ Morris is going to take over at starting QB going forward.

There’s no doubt NC State is looking for a spark on offense after averaging 25.4 points per game during a 3-2 start. During those 5 games, Armstrong has completed 58.8% of his passes with 5 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
As for Morris, he appeared in 5 games as a freshman during the 2022 season with 648 yards passing and 8 total touchdowns with an interception. He’s a former 3-star prospect out of Carrollton, Georgia.
We’ll see if Morris can provide the spark NC State is looking for as the Wolfpack prepare for a matchup against Marshall. After that, the team will face Duke, Clemson and Miami in a brutal stretch, so the offense needs to get things figured out quickly.
