Dave Doeren’s name came up in the rumor mill for Nebraska’s open head coaching job this week.

In a press conference, Doeren was asked about his interest in the Nebraska job.

“It’s Week 3 of the season. I’m so fired up to coach my team this week,” Doeren said at his weekly press conference on Monday. “It’s not the first time names have been on lists. It is what it is and we can talk about that, but I can’t wait to get ready for this game. This is a big one for us and a big season for us. That’s where my head and my heart is.”

While Doeren did not deny having any interest in Nebraska’s vacant position, he was focused on coaching his team at NC State. Doeren acknowledged the common occurrence of appearing on lists for open jobs and he was not bothered by it.

Nebraska fired head coach Scott Frost on Sunday after a Week 2 loss to Georgia Southern. The Cornhuskers will be searching all over the country for a new head coach.

There are still 4 months left in the season and there will be plenty of time for Nebraska to find its next head coach. At least for now, Doeren is preparing for NC State’s home game against Texas Tech on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
