North Carolina State forward Manny Bates is out for the season, the program announced on Friday afternoon.

Bates suffered a dislocated shoulder during NC State’s season-opener vs. Bucknell on Tuesday night.

“I’m heartbroken for Manny because he’s overcome so much to become the incredible player he is,” coach Kevin Keatts said in a statement. “He does everything the right way, he doesn’t take shortcuts. He’s a prime example of everything I want an NC State basketball player to be on and off the court.”

Bates was expected to be one of the Wolfpack’s best players this season. He has 50 career starts with NC State and averaged 9.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game last season.

It’s not clear how NC State will replace Bates’ presence and production. NC state is currently No. 53 in the latest KenPom rankings.

NC State hosts Colgate at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday.
