NC State claims Holiday Bowl trophy, 10th win following COVID-19 cancelation
NC State will get its 10th win of the season after all.
The Wolfpack received the Holiday Bowl trophy on Wednesday morning, just mere hours after learning they wouldn’t be able to play in their bowl game due to UCLA’s COVID-19 outbreak.
NC State is also counting this as its 10th win of the 2021 season. This gives the Wolfpack double digit wins for the first time since 2002 and for just the second time in program history.
Dave Doeren told me Holiday Bowl officials came into their team meeting to present them with the Trophy, and NC State will count this as a 10th win in their record books. https://t.co/067uL740Fu

Coach Dave Doeren was critical of how this process was handled.
“Felt lied to, to be honest,” Doeren told reporters on Tuesday. “We felt like UCLA probably knew something was going on, didn’t tell anybody on our side. We had no clue they were up against that. I don’t feel like it was very well handled from their university.”
While the outcome didn’t play out how NC State would have preferred, it’s still a nice resolution to what was a successful season for the Wolfpack. NC State was in the mix for an ACC title berth until the very end and should be one of the conference’s best teams again in 2022.
