NC State coach Dave Doeren explains why MJ Morris didn’t play in bowl game

NC State coach Dave Doeren had a good reason for not playing 2 quarterbacks in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

Doeren explained that the original plan was for Morris and Ben Finley to get some snaps in the bowl game. However, Doeren explained that “as the weeks progressed, MJ got sore.”

Doeren explained that due to this soreness, he “did not feel it was in his (Morris’s) best interest to play.”

With Morris out, Finley took all of the snaps for the Wolfpack. Finley finished 22-of-48 for 269 yards and 2 INTs in a 16-12 loss.

During the regular season, Finley played in 2 games. The QB went 43-of-75 for 472 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 INT.

Morris played in 5 games, finishing 52-of-86 for 648 yards, 7 TDs, and 1 INT.

Both QBs were thrust into action after Devin Leary suffered a season-ending injury against Florida State. Leary later entered the transfer portal and committed to the Kentucky Wildcats.
