NC State earns No. 1 seed in women’s NCAA Tournament

NC State’s women’s basketball team will be the No. 1 seed in the Bridgeport Region, it was announced on Sunday evening.

This is the second straight year the Wolfpack have earned a No. 1 seed. NC State had never hit that benchmark before last season.

The Wolfpack will face either Longwood or Mount St. Mary’s in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. Those two programs will meet in the play-in round later this week.

NC State has never won the National Championship, but does have one Final Four appearance — back in 1998. That’s also the Wolfpack’s l

one Elite Eight appearance.

Last season, NC State made the Sweet 16 before falling in an upset loss to No. 4-seeded Indiana. The Wolfpack have made the Sweet 16 in three consecutive NCAA Tournaments.

If NC State wins on Saturday, it will face the winner of Washington State and Kansas State in the Round of 32. NC State already has a win over both of those programs this season.
