NC State is reportedly in the running to land the commitment of quarterback transfer Brennan Armstrong, according to ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel.

In December, Armstrong entered the transfer portal after 5 seasons at Virginia. He will be looking for a new college football team and could decide to remain in the ACC. Armstrong remains one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal. NC State will be looking to add to the quarterback room with the departure of Devin Leary.

In an appearance on Monday’s episode of ESPN’s College GameDay, Thamel talked about transfers who are still looking for a new program. Thamel explored the possibility of Armstrong transferring to NC State in 2023.

“Brennan Armstrong had a down year with the departure of Robert Anae as his offensive coordinator,” Thamel said. “I was told today, don’t be surprised if Armstrong reunites with him at NC State.”

In 2022, Armstrong struggled with 2,210 passing yards, 7 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. In Thamel’s report, he mentioned how Armstrong lost his offensive coordinator Robert Anae after the 2021 season. Anae left Virginia for Syracuse in 2022, but has since been hired by the Wolfpack.

Anae’s presence at NC State could be the deciding factor in Armstrong’s transfer decision. Armstrong will have options in the transfer portal.

NC State does have young quarterbacks in MJ Morris and Ben Finley who are currently expected to compete for the starting job if no additions are made.
