NC State is closing in on a deal with Robert Anae to be its next offensive coordinator, according to a report.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel was first with that news, noting that Anae will be joining the Wolfpack after one year at Syracuse. He was previously Virginia’s offensive coordinator.

Anae replaces Tim Beck, who left NC State earlier this month to be the next head coach at Coastal Carolina.

Anae is considered to be one of the top offensive coordinators in the country. He produced better-than-expected results in each of the past two seasons with Brennan Armstrong at UVA and Garrett Shrader at Virginia.

In 2021, Anae’s UVA offense led the ACC in yards per play. His Syracuse offense in 2022 finished fourth in yards per play despite Shrader and other key players battling injuries over the second half of the season.

With Anae coming to Raleigh, the Wolfpack could be an attractive destination for quarterbacks who are currently in the transfer portal. They could also opt to stick with MJ Morris, who showed a lot of promise as a true freshman this season.

NC State faces Maryland in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl later this month.
