NC State freshman Tommy White is enter the transfer portal, according to a report.

That’s per D1Baseball.com’s Kendall Rogers, who notes that White’s 27 homers broke the NCAA’s single-season record for a freshman.

Rumors of White’s imminent departure had been swirling in recent days, but this is still a surprising development given how well White played in 2022.

White was a bright spot for the Wolfpack this season, who just missed out on a NCAA Tournament berth. He hit multiple key home runs down the stretch of the season that put NC State in a good spot to make the Field of 64.

According to Rogers, White is expected to transfer closer to home in Florida. He’s originally from St. Pete Beach, Fla. and attended IMG Academy in Bradenton.

It will be interesting to see if White considers Florida State, Miami or any other ACC program during his process.

In addition to hitting 27 home runs this season, White also posted a .362 batting average — good enough for No. 2 on the team.
