Payton Wilson earned 1st-team AP All-America honors on Monday afternoon.

Wilson had a sensational 2023 campaign at NC State. He is the lone representative from the ACC on this year’s 1st team All-America squad, per the AP. Wilson has also been named a 1st-team All-American by numerous other outlets.

Wilson was also named ACC Defensive Player of the Year for his efforts this season. He amassed 138 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and 6 sacks on the season. He also set new career-highs with 3 interceptions and 6 pass deflections.

Wilson has now clinched consensus All-America status. He becomes the 11th NC State player in program history to earn that honor. It’s also the 3rd consecutive season that a NC State star has been named a consensus All-American. Wilson joins offensive lineman Ikem Ekwonu (2021) and Christopher Dunn (2022) in that exclusive club. Bradley Chubb and Garrett Bradbury are the other consensus All-Americans at NC State during the Dave Doeren era.

If Wilson is named a 1st-team All-American by Sporting News and the AFCA, he will become a unanimous All-American. NC State has had 3 unanimous All-Americans in its history.

NC State will face Kansas State in its bowl game on Dec. 28.
