Terquavion Smith, NC State star guard, makes decision on 2023-24 season

Terquavion Smith is going pro.

Smith shared that decision with ESPN’s Jonathan Givony on Tuesday afternoon. Smith is a potential 1st round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Smith nearly turned pro after last season, but d

ecided to return to Raleigh for one more year after getting feedback from NBA evaluators. It seems Smith believes he addressed many of their concerns.

“I showed a lot of different things this year,” Smith told Givony. “Teams wanted to see me be more of a point guard, making the right play, making the right decisions. They wanted to see me improve my finishing, and I increased that. I showed I can be a leader.”

Smith did have more ball h

andling responsibilities this season. He averaged a career-high 4.1 assists per game while also upping his scoring average to 17.9 points per contest.

Smith is a high-level athlete at 6-foot-4. He’s also considered to be a strong shooter, as he made 33.6% of his 3-point tries this year on a high-volume (8 attempts per game).

NC State’s other starting guard, Jarkel Joiner, is out of eligibility after this season. The Wolfpack will be looking for 2 new starting guards in 2023-24.
