One of the top high school basketball players in the country recently visited North Carolina, and it apparently went well.

2024 5-star guard Paul McNeil spoke about his trip to Chapel Hill in an interview with 247Sports’ Eric Bossi. McNeil has also taken unofficial visits to Clemson, NC State and Wake Forest.

“Man, that was good,” McNeil said of his visit to Chapel Hill. “It was like the practice was really intense. When they run, they run hard and have to make it in certain times. How they flow, how they get their shots in practice I really like how that was.”

McNeil is the No. 22 player in the country for the class of 2024, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. Crucially, he’s also ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of North Carolina.

He’s listed at 6-foot-6, and profiles as an excellent shooter. He attends Richmond High School in Rockingham, North Carolina.

North Carolina doesn’t currently have any commitments in the class of 2024 — it’s still very early in that cycle. But getting involved with McNeil at this early stage could help down the line when its time for him to make a decision.

UNC is off to a great start in its 2023 recruiting class. The Tar Heels already have a commitment from 5-star Simeon Wilcher and are considered the favorites to land 5-star forward GG Jackson.
