Armando Bacot officially breaks North Carolina record for career rebounds

Armando Bacot stands alone in the record books of one of college basketball’s most storied programs.

The North Carolina big man officially broke the program’s all-time record for rebounds in a career Saturday against NC State (1,220).

He entered the day trailing Tyler Hansbrough by 16 boards on the Tar Heels’ all-time rebounds ladder. He secured his 17th rebound with 6:54 to play in the game.

Bacot and Hansbrough are the only two players in Carolina history with 1,200 rebounds.

The 6-foot-11 senior from Richmond entered Saturday averaging 17.6 points and 11.2 rebounds a game. He’s been a double-double monster for the Tar Heels all season, gobbling up rebounds better than anyone else in the ACC.

He leads the league in rebounds per game and ranks second in rebounding percentage.

“I’ll be looking the whole time, I mean, it’s the human thing to do,” Bacot said of the record earlier this week, via The News & Observer

. “And it’s not like I’m out there chasing points. I mean rebounds, that’s an effort thing so I think that’s something that you should want to chase.”

Record secured.
