Armando Bacot added another jewel to an already studded North Carolina résumé Saturday night against Duke.

Already the Tar Heels’ career leader in rebounds, Bacot passed the most famous basketball player in history on Carolina’s career scoring leaderboard. The senior forward entered Saturday’s regular-season finale against Duke 11 points shy of passing Michael Jordan for 14th all-time in scoring. He did so in the second half.

Bacot entered the game with 1,795 points over his 4-year career. He passed Jordan on a pair of free throws early in the second half. The Tar Heels’ double-double leader as well, Bacot posted another against the Blue Devils. He finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

The senior was honored with thunderous applause from the crowd inside Dean E. Smith Center during the pregame Senior Night festivities, but Bacot said heading into the game he was still undecided about a possible return for the 2023-24 season. Carolina is still fighting for a spot in the NCAA Tournament, and Bacot seems 100% focused on this season before turning his attention to the next.
