Former North Carolina star Brady Manek will get his chance in the NBA later this summer.

Manek has signed a Summer League deal with the Charlotte Hornets, he announced on Friday.

While some fans were surprised to see Manek go undrafted on Thursday night, he will still have an opportunity to prove himself on an NBA floor. If Manek performs well enough in Summer League, it could create a pathway to a 2-way contract — either with the Hornets or another organization.

Manek’s size, passing and shooting ability should give him a chance to impress evaluators this summer. However, he will likely have to show improvement as a defender if he hopes to stick in the league longterm.

Last season, Manek averaged 15.1 points per game and shot 40.3% from 3-point range.

The Hornets are playing in the Las Vegas Summer League from July 7-17. Their slate includes matchups vs. the Pacers, Lakers, Cavs and Bulls. Their first game is against Indiana on July 8.
