Drake Maye was the star of the show in North Carolina’s first half performance vs. Syracuse.

Maye accounted for 323 total yards and scored 3 touchdowns (2 passing, 1 rushing) in the first half against the Orange. UNC took a 27-0 lead into the break thanks to Maye’s big half.

Here’s a replay of one of Maye’s touchdown passes — a perfect ball to Bryson Nesbit:

Maye finished the half by completing 23-of-35 passes for 280 yards and those 2 touchdowns. He also rushed the ball 9 times for 43 yards and another score. That rushing total is good enough for second place on the team so far behind only Omarion Hampton’s 60 yards.

This game marks the debut for UNC receiver Tez Walker, who was ruled eligible by the NCAA on Thursday. Walker caught 2 passes for 12 yards in the first half of his UNC debut.

Maye is hoping to work his way back into the Heisman Trophy conversation. He was a preseason front-runner, but only had 5 touchdown passes in 4 games entering this contest.

However, even with the lack of big numbers, Maye could be a contender for the honor as long as UNC continues to win games. UNC would move to 5-0 on the season with a win over the Orange on Saturday.
