Drake Maye continues to move up on the list of Heisman-hopefuls nationwide.

Maye threw for 293 yards and 2 TD’s in the Tar Heels’ 31-28 win over Virginia on Saturday. As a result, he’s now No. 3 on ESPN’s list of Heisman contenders.

Entering last week, Maye was tied for No. 5 on ESPN’s list. The redshirt freshman fell just behind Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, and Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker.

Maye keeps winning, and thus, he keeps rising. He threw for 293 yards and tossed two touchdowns in the Tar Heels’ victory over Virginia. Those two passing touchdowns lifted his season total to 31, which leads the nation. Did you think that was it for Maye? He also had a big night on the ground with 16 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown, with his longest run being a 26-yard dash in the first quarter. He has now taken the Tar Heels to an 8-1 record and lifted them to five consecutive wins.

Maye has thrown for 2,964 yards this season, fifth best in the nation. He leads the FBS in TDs with 31, and has only 3 interceptions this year. Maye also has 91.8 QB grade from PFF, the highest passing grade this season among Power 5 QBs.
