Drake Maye will not participate in North Carolina’s senior night ceremony on Saturday.

Maye shared that decision while speaking with reporters on Tuesday afternoon. Mack Brown previously said he wasn’t sure if Maye would want to participate.

Maye, a redshirt sophomore, said he considered taking part in the ceremony, but ultimately decided against it.

“I’ve thought about it, but senior day should be for seniors,” Maye said.

The Carolina quarterback also said he hasn’t made a decision about whether or not he will enter the 2024 NFL Draft. Maye does have additional eligibility if he decides to return to UNC for the 2024 season.

Maye is widely considered to be in the mix to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft, alongside USC’s Caleb Williams.

Maye has led Carolina to a 7-2 start so far this season. He has thrown for 2,803 yards and 20 touchdowns so far during the 2023 campaign.

North Carolina will be looking to rebound after losing back-to-back ACC games. The Tar Heels did defeat Campbell in Week 10 to move to 7-2 on the year. If Carolina wins out, it would achieve its first 10-win season since 2015.

Kickoff vs. Duke is set for 8 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
