Drake Powell moved into the top 10 of 247Sports’ recruiting rankings on Thursday.
Powell has earned a meteoric rise in recent months. He ranked outside of the top 50 nationally until March of 2023.
Powell is now a consensus 5-star prospect and the No. 20 overall player in the country, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 9 small forward in the country.
He’s a North Carolina native. Powell has been committed to Carolina since September of 2022.
Powell attends Northwood High School in Pittsboro, North Carolina. He’s listed at 6-foot-5, 170 pounds.
North Carolina now has a pair of 5-star commitments in the class of 2024. Powell is joined by 5-star guard Ian Jackson, who is rated as the No. 5 overall player in his class.
The Tar Heels own the No. 1-ranked class nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Arizona, Baylor and Duke are the only other programs with multiple 5-star commitments to this point in the cycle.
