ESPN updated its bowl projections for North Carolina heading into the final week of the regular season.

ESPN college football writers Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach revised their weekly bowl projections for North Carolina this weekend. Bonagura and Schlabach placed North Carolina against Oklahoma State in the Cheez-It Bowl on Dec. 29.

North Carolina’s Playoff and New Year’s Six chances likely evaporated after a 21-17 loss to Georgia Tech in Week 12. It was a stunning loss for North Carolina and it snapped the team’s 6-game winning streak.

North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye was limited to 202 passing yards and he threw 1 interception. Running back Elijah Green kept the Tar Heels in the game with 2 rushing touchdowns and 92 rushing yards.

Maye, who is a Heisman Trophy contender, failed to throw a passing touchdown for the first time this season. He was been able to carry North Carolina multiple victories in close games, but Georgia Tech managed to neutralize Maye.

Fortunately for North Carolina, the Georgia Tech loss did not impact the team’s ACC Championship Game status. North Carolina clinched a spot in the conference championship with a win over Wake Forest in Week 11.

North Carolina will look to bounce back against NC State on Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
