ESPN updates North Carolina's ranking amongst all 22 undefeated teams
ESPN’s Bill Connelly updated his ranking of all 22 remaining undefeated teams in FBS on Tuesday morning.
North Carolina is the third-highest ranked ACC team to make the cut at No. 13. The Tar Heels are behind Florida State and Miami. Louisville also enters Week 6 with an undefeated record.
North Carolina sits 1 spot above its ranking in the AP Top 25 entering Week 6. Here’s some analysis from Connelly on North Carolina’s biggest strength so far in 2023:
The ball doesn’t hit the ground. Drake Maye is completing 73% of his passes. Big sophomore running back Omarion Hampton is on pace for well over 1,000 rushing yards. North Carolina can beat you with the run or the pass, and they can utilize tempo effectively. They’re good in the red zone too.
North Carolina’s defense has been improved this season as well, particularly in the secondary. The Tar Heels have only allowed 2 touchdown passes so far in 2023.
Carolina is firmly in contention to reach the ACC Championship Game again this season. The Tar Heels played on that stage a year ago, but fell to Clemson.
UNC will face Syracuse in Week 6.
