Former North Carolina cornerback Tony Grimes is headed to the SEC.

Grimes announced his commitment to Texas A&M on Thursday afternoon. Here’s his commitment announcement:

Grimes departed Carolina after three seasons with the Tar Heels. He was a primary starter for each of the past two campaigns.

He recorded 97 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception and 19 pass deflections over his three years with Carolina.

North Carolina will have a tough time replacing Grimes in 2023. However, the Tar Heels have been aggressive in adding talent via the transfer portal early in the offseason.

Carolina already has six commits from transfers for the 2023 cycle. Three of those players are defensive backs: cornerback Armani Chatman (Virginia Tech), safety Derrik Allen (Georgia Tech) and cornerback Alijah Huzzie (East Tennessee State).

North Carolina will face off against Oregon in the Holiday Bowl later this month.
