Hubert Davis and his North Carolina basketball program received big news this week with the announcement Elliot Cadeau was reclassifying to the 2023 recruiting class.

A 5-star point guard out of New Jersey, Cadeau was originally slated for the 2024 recruiting class. He was the 9th overall prospect in the country in the 2024 recruiting cycle per the 247 Sports Composite.

On Wednesday, the Tar Heels officially announced Cadeau has signed his scholarship agreement to join the program for the 2023-24 season. Davis praised the signing for Cadeau’s elite passing and ability to make those around him better.

“Elliot is an elite passer and playmaker,” said Davis via the program’s press release. “He always wants his team to win and excels at making his teammates around him better. Elliot is a selfless teammate who consistently celebrates the success of others. He is a great addition to our team and program, and we are excited he is a Tar Heel.”

Impact for 2023-24 season

After reclassifying, Cadeau is rated as the No. 11 prospect in the nation and the No. 2 PG in the country by the 247 Sports Composite. That gives UNC 3 high school signees in the top 70 players for the cycle with 4-star CG Simeon Wilcher (No. 34 nationally) and 4-star PF Zayden High (No. 68) already signing with the program.

Davis and the Tar Heels were also active in the transfer portal, adding 4 players from the portal this offseason. 3 of the portal additions for UNC were given a 4-star transfer rating by 247 Sports, including former 5-star recruit Harrison Ingram from Stanford.
