North Carolina coach Hubert Davis met with the media on Wednesday afternoon, less than one week before the Tar Heels’ 2021-22 campaign tips off.

Davis declined to name a starting five, but he did give some insight into how he’ll make those selections on a game-by-game basis. He said matchups and how players are performing in practice will have an impact.

Davis seemed optimistic overall, citing a deep rotation of options. That’s especially true in the front court, where North Carolina returns Armando Bacot and has transfers Brady Manek and Dawson Garcia joining the fold.

There’s also sophomore guards RJ Davis and Caleb Love, who are hoping to improve on up-and-down freshmen seasons. Love, especially, will be looking to re-gain his status as a 5-star prospect and a potential NBA draft pick.

Kerwin Walton is also expected to start at forward for the Tar Heels.

North Carolina opens its season on Nov. 9 vs. Loyola (MD).
