Ian Jackson made a strong statement on Tuesday night when asked about rumors that he could decommit from North Carolina.

Jackson told 247Sports that he is “100 percent” committed to the Tar Heels.

There’s also been rumors that Jackson, a 5-star in the class of 2024, could re-classify into 2023 and join the Tar Heels for this upcoming season. However, Jackson said he is leaning toward remaining in the 2024 recruiting class.

“I have considered (reclassifying) but I feel as if I want to take this year to prepare my body and my mind to walk into UNC as a professional,” Jackson told 247Sports. “I’m 100-percent committed to UNC and will join the program next season (2024-25).”

Losing Jackson’s commitment would be devastating for North Carolina. He’s currently the No. 5 overall player and the No. 2 shooting guard in the country for the class of 2024, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

He attends Cardinal Hayes High School in Bronx, New York. He’s listed at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds.

Jackson is 1 of 3 commitments in North Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class so far. He’s joined by 4-star forward Drake Powell and 4-star center James Brown. The class ranks No. 1 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
