Marcus Paige is back with the Tar Heels.

Paige, who played for North Carolina from 2013-16, was hired by the program on Friday as its next director of team and player development.

Here’s the announcement:

“I am thankful and honored to be a part of UNC Basketball with Coach Davis and his staff,” Paige said in a release. “I’ve always wanted the opportunity to make the same positive impact on players that my former coaches, including Coach Williams and Coach Davis, made on me. Basketball has taken me around the world, and Taylor and I couldn’t be happier than to take this next step here with my Carolina family.”

Paige is North Carolina’s all-time leader in 3-point makes with 299 in his storied career. He’s also the only 3-time captain in the history of Carolina basketball.

He returns to UNC after playing professional basketball for the past 7 years. He was a 2nd round pick in the 2016 NBA Draft and played 2 years in the G-League before moving overseas. He did appear in 5 games for the Charlotte Hornets during the 2017-18 season.

Most recently, Paige played for Monbus Obradoiro in Spain.

Head coach Hubert Davis also made a statement on adding Paige to the program.

“The standard for every Carolina basketball player is to be elite in three areas: on the court, in the classroom and in the community,” Davis added. “There was no better example of that than Marcus Paige. I am thrilled to have a person with his character, love, passion, and devotion to this program and University be around our players every day.”
