North Carolina adds commitment from dual-sport 2024 tight end, pitcher

North Carolina added a talented and extremely versatile athlete on Monday.

Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot tight end Timothy Lawson revealed his commitment to the Tar Heels on his social media page. Lawson was on an official visit to Chapel Hill over the weekend and it seems he saw all he needed to. He had upcoming visits scheduled to TCU, Duke, and then Purdue later in June.

At UNC, Lawson will also play on the baseball team. He’s a left-handed pitcher and first baseman who had previously been committed to UCF’s baseball program.

As a junior last fall, Lawson caught 32 passes for 469 yards and a touchdown to help Bishop Verot to a 10-3 record and a berth in the Florida 2S playoff semifinals. He’s a 3-star prospect in the industry-generated 247 Composite and ranks as the No. 39 tight end in the class. Overall, Lawson is the No. 885 recruit.

A 6-foot-4, 220-pound tight end, Lawson has seen his stock as a football prospect rise quite a bit in 2023. This calendar year, he has reported offers from Baylor, Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, and Rutgers. Still, he’s a promising baseball prospect all the same.

His pledge brings UNC to 14 known commitments in the 2024 cycle. It’s a group that ranks 11th in the country and now features a pair of tight ends. You can see Lawson’s highlight tape below, via Hudl:
