North Carolina assistant coach Jovan Dewitt could be a candidate to replace Butch Davis at FIU, according to a report.
That’s per The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, who cites Dewitt’s connections in Florida after several y
ears of recruiting the Sunshine State.
Dewitt is originally from the midwest, but has had stops at Florida Atlantic and UCF in his career. He’s been North Carolina’s outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator for the past two seasons.
Whoever gets this job will have to lead a significant rebuilding operation. The Golden Panthers are 1-14 in their last two seasons, including an 0-5 record during a COVID-shortened 2020 c
ampaign.
North Carolina is 5-5 this season and will be looking to reach bowl eligibility on Saturday vs. Wofford. The Tar Heels finish their regular season vs. NC State on Nov. 26.
UNC coach Mack Brown, 70, said earlier this week that he hasn’t considered retirement and expects to be back in Chapel Hill for the 2022 season.
