North Carolina baseball advances to Super Regional

North Carolina is moving on.

The Tar Heels defeated Virginia Commonwealth 7-3 on Monday night, securing a spot in the Super Regionals. It was their third victory in a row after losing to VCU early in the Chapel Hill regional.

Here’s a clip of the celebration:

Danny Serretti and Mikey Madej each homered in the game and drove in multiple runs. Vance Honeycutt also drove in a pair of runs in the win.

On the mound, Gage Gillian pitched 4.1 innings of scoreless ball in relief. He allowed just 1 hit and struck out 4 over that s

pan.

North Carolina will face the winner of the Stillwater Regional. Oklahoma State and Arkansas are playing a winner-takes-all game on Monday night.

If the Razorbacks win, the Tar Heels will host Arkansas in the Super Regional round.

This is UNC’s first regional title since 2019. It’s the 14th regional championship in program history. North Carolina is searching for its first College World Series appearance since 2018.
