North Carolina blows out NC State on the road, strengthens NCAA Tournament résumé
North Carolina was impressive in a big road win at NC State on Saturday afternoon.
The Tar Heels completed the season sweep over their in-state rivals and picked up a key Quad 2 victory. That should help significantly as UNC continues to pursue an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament.
North Carolina was led by center Armando Bacot, who had perhaps his best game of the season. He scored 28 points on 11-of-13 shooting and grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds.
Bacot also had 5 blocks and completely controlled the paint on both ends of the floor. UNC won the paint-points battle 44-28.
Caleb Love, Puff Johnson and Brady Manek each scored 16 points. Johnson’s production is a great sign for UNC’s bench, which has struggled to make a significant offensive impact over the past several weeks.
Leaky Black didn’t play in the second half after suffering a hyper-extended right knee in the first half. However, he was able to go through the team’s lay-up line at halftime and didn’t appear to be seriously injured.
North Carolina faces Syracuse on Monday.
