North Carolina coach Mack Brown took an opportunity to poke fun at the recent feud between Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops and basketball coach John Calipari.

Brown was on the Paul Finebaum show on Monday and started the segment off by talking about how good his relationship is with UNC hoops coach Hubert Davis.

“May I say that our basketball coach, Hubert Davis, and I are getting along wonderfully,” Brown told Finebaum. “We can start with that. To get that out of the way if you were going to bring it up or question it at all. Hubert was at practice the other day and we’re great friends and really enjoy each other.”

Last week, tempers began to flare in Lexington when Calipari called Kentucky a “basketball school” while advocating for a new practice facility. Stoops took exception to the comment, and tensions were still high over the weekend when Stoops met with the media and said he hadn’t spoken with Calipari about the incident.

Indeed, things are going well at North Carolina. The basketball program is coming off one of its most memorable postseason runs is school history, making it all the way to the national title game before being ousted by No. 1-seeded Kansas.

Brown’s football program is looking up, too. While the Tar Heels fell below expectations in 2021, they’ve continued to recruit at an elite level and should be more than competitive again this upcoming season.

UNC kicks off its 2022 campaign in Week 0 against Florida A&M on Aug. 27.
