On Thursday, North Carolina landed a commitment from 5-star forward GG Jackson.

Jackson is one of the top players in the country for the class of 2023 — which is where he will be staying.

Despite speculation that he could re-classify to the class of 2022 and join the Tar Heels for this upcoming season, Jackson told ESPN’s Jeff Borzello that he’s staying in his high school class.

“Weighing over my options and looking at the different people that re-classed up, seeing how it affected them,” Jackson told Borzello. “I feel like, physically, I’m not there yet to play at that college level.”

Jackson is currently listed at 6-foot-9, 210 pounds. He’s the No. 4 overall player in the country for his class, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

When Jackson does get to Chapel Hill, he’s expected to slot in as a potential starter at power forward. He has the size and shooting ability to play the stretch 4 in Hubert Davis’ offense.

Jackson joins 5-star guard Simeon Wilcher in UNC’s 2023 recruiting class. The Tar Heels’ class currently ranks No. 2 nationally, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. With players like Armando Bacot, Leaky Black, Caleb Love and R.J. Davis expected to leave after next season, more additions to this star-studded recruiting class are sure to be on the way.
