North Carolina declines invite to NIT following bracket reveal

North Carolina basketball did the unprecedented Sunday evening, falling from Preseason No. 1 to missing the postseason entirely. We say that because the Tar Heels announced following the Selection Show that they would be denying their invite to the NIT.

The Tar Heels’ statement on the matter is below:

This is not exactly abnormal, teams have declined invites to the NIT with similar intentions. However, t

he Tar Heels’ seniors have now officially ended their college careers, including Pete Nance and Leaky Black, as well as likely Armando Bacot should he enter the NBA draft.

North Carolina finished their season 20-13 with an 11-9 ACC record, not including ACC Tournament games.
