North Carolina has a Quad 1 win on its NCAA Tournament resume.

UNC, which is on the bubble as March Madness nears, defeated Virginia 71-63 on Saturday. Senior starting forward Peter Nance led the way for the Tar Heels with 22 pounds on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-4 from behind the 3-point line.

It was a dominant game for the Tar Heels, who never traveled. The game was tied on 2 occasions, but UNC led for 37:50 of the 40-minute contest. North Carolina led by as many as 17 points.

ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi had North Carolina in the “First Four Out” category at No. 71 overall before the victory. A Quad 1 victory should certainly help that projected standing.

North Carolina will look to keep its at-large Big Dance hopes alive with games against Florida State and Duke left before heading to Greensboro for the ACC basketball tournament.
