North Carolina is reportedly close to adding a former NFL head to the offensive coaching staff for the 2023 season.

According to Matt Zenitz with On3 Sports, the Tar Heels are expected to add Freddie Kitchens as tight ends coach for 2023. Kitchens was most recently an analyst for South Carolina in 2022 after a prolonged stint in the NFL.

From 2006-21, Kitchens held a variety of posts in the NFL, including as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2019. The Browns went 6-10 in Kitchens’ lone season leading the team.

Kitchens has served as TEs coach for the Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants around the NFL and for Mississippi State at the collegiate level.
