North Carolina forward Dawson Garcia to miss Virginia Tech game due to personal matter
North Carolina forward Dawson Garcia will miss the Tar Heels’ game vs. Virginia Tech on Monday night as he attends to a family matter.
UNC announced that news shortly before tipoff on Monday. Garcia is going back home to Minnesota this week to tend to a family illness, the release said.
“We are fully supportive of Dawson and his family and will offer whatever assistance we are able to provide as they deal with this family matter,” coach Hubert Davis said in his release.
Garcia has been a regular for the Tar Heels this season. He’s started in 12 games and is averaging over 20 minutes per contest.
Recently, Garcia has fallen behind forward Brady Manek in North Carolina’s rotation. Still, Garcia is averaging 9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this season.
North Carolina is in desperate need of a win over the Hokies on Monday night. The Tar Heels have lost back-to-back games and are losing their grip on a potential NCAA Tournament berth.
UNC is a five-point favorite over Virginia Tech in Chapel Hill.
