North Carolina freshman DT Travis Shaw flashes insane speed in fall camp drill
Freshman defensive tackle Travis Shaw was a 5-star recruit, so it shouldn’t be surprising that he’s already flashing elite athleticism in Chapel Hill.
Still, it’s alarming to see a player so young and so big — listed at 6-foot-5, 355 pounds — moving so fast.
Here’s a clip of Shaw tracking back across the field during a fall camp drill, courtesy of UNC co-defensive coordinator Tommy Thigpen:

That’s impressive movement and should be concerning to ACC offensive lines. Shaw was the No. 20 overall player and the No. 6 defensive lineman in the country for his class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
He’s a North Carolina native who attended Grimsley High School in Greensboro. Alongside offensive tackle Zach Rice, Shaw is one of two 5-stars that UNC signed in the class of 2022.
Shaw is expected to play a role in North Carolina’s defensive front this season. The Tar Heels are hoping to be much improved defensively after bringing in Thigpen and Gene Chizik as co-defensive coordinators this offseason.
North Carolina opens the 2022 season with Florida A&M on Aug. 27.
