North Carolina defeated Syracuse 72-68 on the road on Tuesday night.
The Tar Heels led for most of the game, but Jim Boeheim’s squad had a 2-point advantage until a late 6-0 run from North Carolina. Four of those points came at the free throw line in the final 21 seconds of the game.
Pete Nance was arguably North Carolina’s best player in this game. He scored a team-high 21 points, but he also filled up the box score in other areas. He added 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block and 4 steals while playing all 40 minutes.
Armando Bacot, fresh off of breaking North Carolina’s all-time rebounding record, was also excellent. He added 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
North Carolina’s ball movement was impressive in this game as it worked to thwart Syracuse’s 2-3 zone. The Tar Heels registered 20 assists on 26 made baskets. They also generated an impressive 23 free throw opportunities.

orth Carolina has now won 10 of its last 12 games, including 4 in a row. At 7-3 in conference play, The Tar Heels remain strong contenders for the ACC title.
