North Carolina is a No. 8-seed in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology update.
Lunardi has UNC projected to face Creighton in the first round. If the Tar Heels were to win that game, they would likely see No. 1-seeded Baylor with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line.
The Tar Heels picked up big wins in the last week over Duke and Virginia, but fell to Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament semifinals on Friday.
The result is UNC is no longer on the NCAA Tournament bubble, but its seeding could be complicated. UNC could get to the No. 7-seed line and avoid potentially having to face a No. 1 seed in the second round.
Entering Saturday, North Carolina was ranked No. 32 in the NET rankings. It dropped three spots following its loss to Virginia Tech on Friday.
North Carolina hasn’t made it past the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament since the 2018-19 season. The Tar Heels were a No. 1-seed that year and made it to the Sweet 16.
The 2022 NCAA Tournament bracket will be revealed at 6:00 p.m. ET on Sunday.
