North Carolina kicker to enter transfer portal

North Carolina kicker Jonathan Kim will enter the transfer portal, North Carolina head coach Mack Brown announced on Monday.

Kim was only used for kickoff duties and did not attempt a field goal in 2022. Kim wanted to attempt field goals and he decided to find another program that would allow him to kick field goals, Brown said.

Kim, a senior, has been with North Carolina since 2019. In more than 3 seasons, Kim made 2 extra points. In 2021, Kim played in all 13 games. He handled the kickoff responsibilities and he led the ACC in touchbacks with 65. Kim’s touchbacks r

anked No. 4 in the country in 2021. His 2nd and final career extra point happened against Georgia State in 2021.

For North Carolina, redshirt sophomore kicker Noah Burnette has been the team’s primary field goal kicker. This is Burnette’s 3rd season with the program and he has received more reps with the field goal unit than Kim.

North Carolina will host Virginia Tech on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
