North Carolina lands commitment from high-profile transfer

North Carolina’s roster for the 2022-23 season is set.

The Tar Heels earned a commitment from Northwestern transfer Pete Nance, who should slot in as their starting power forward next season.

Here’s Nance’s announcement:

Nance will likely replace Brady Manek in UNC’s starting 5, who is out of collegiate eligibility. The Tar Heels return 4 starters next season.

Nance is a more versatile athlete than Manek and is a good shooter, too. He made 45.2% of his 3-point attempts at Northwestern last season.

He chose to return to college for his fifth year of e

ligibility rather than begin his professional career. It’s possible he would have been a second-round pick had he chose to remain in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Nance’s father, Larry Nance Sr., was a multi-time NBA All-Star. His brother, Larry Nance Jr., is also in the NBA.

Caleb Love, RJ Davis, Leaky Black and Armando Bacot are expected to round out North Carolina’s starting 5 in 2022-23.
