North Carolina lands massive CB transfer from Ohio State

North Carolina made a significant transfer portal addition on Monday evening.

The Tar Heels secured the signature of Ohio State transfer cornerback Lejond Cavazos.

Here’s his announcement:

“I want to say how excited I am to be a Tar Heel,” Cavazos said in a statement

. “Everything about being at North Carolina fit what I was looking for. It’s a prestigious University, offering a great education, and the football program is on the rise. I’ve been able to build a strong bond with the coaching staff and you can see why people want to play for them.

“They’re excellent coaches, but even more important, they’re great men. I’ve also gotten to know some of the guys on the team, and I think I’ll be a good fit. I can’t wait to start this next chapter, get to Chapel Hill, and get to work with my new teammates.”

Cavazos was a 4-star prospect coming out of high school. He was the No. 26 cornerback in the country for the class of 2020, per 247Sports Composite rankings

.

He saw some of the field as a redshirt freshman at Ohio State in 2021. He finished the year with 7 tackles and 2 pass deflections.

Cavazos could be a key piece in North Carolina attempting to re-vamp its defense this upcoming season.
