North Carolina is a potential suitor for former Georgia cornerback Nyland Green, according to a report.

Per On3’s Chad Simmons, the Tar Heels are a school to “watch early” for Green as he picks his next destination. Simmons’ report also mentions Arkansas and Central Florida.

Green was a 4-star prospect in the class of 2021. He was the No. 72 overall player and the No. 4 cornerback in the country for that cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Multiple outlets had Green rated as a 5-star prospect in the class.

Green entered the transfer portal earlier this week after 3 seasons in Athens. Despite having elite prospect pedigree, he never earned a full-time role on UGA’s defense. However, he did play in all 13 games this season. Green finished the 2023 campaign with 7 tackles and one pass deflection.

North Carolina is expected to be aggressive in the transfer portal this offseason as it looks to take another step forward defensively in 2024. The Tar Heels appeared to make some strides on that end of the ball in 2023, but faltered down the stretch.

North Carolina will close out the 2023 season in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl against West Virginia.
