North Carolina defensive back DJ Jones is in the transfer portal, according to a report.

Inside Carolina was first to share that news on Monday afternoon. Jones started 2 games for North Carolina in the secondary this past season and likely would have had a big role in the bowl game.

Jones spent 4 seasons at Carolina. He arrived in Chapel Hill as a 3-star running back prospect in UNC’s 2020 recruiting class. He converted to defensive back for the 2023 campaign after rushing for 442 yards over 3 seasons from 2020-22.

He was a significant contributor on special teams in 2023 in addition to his responsibilities as a defensive back. He finished the year with 15 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss.

Jones is the 13th player from North Carolina’s 2023 roster to enter the transfer portal so far this offseason.

The Tar Heels are expected to be active in acquiring talent via the portal over the coming weeks as well. So far, UNC’s only transfer commitment is Texas A&M quarterback transfer Max Johnson.

North Carolina will end the 2023 season against West Virginia on Dec. 27.
